Provenance Vineyards Sauvignon Blanc 2003
After picking, the grapes were pressed as quickly as possible and the juice was chilled and settled for two days. After decanting the clearest juice, we added Champagne yeast and kept the fermentation temperatures below 60 degrees. By fermenting and aging this 100 percent Sauvignon Blanc in small stainless-steel tanks, we highlighted its racy aromas of grapefruit zest, lemon/lime and pineapple. |

Matua Valley Sauvignon Blanc 2003
This is a surprising wine. My wife and I opened this one evening while on vacation. It has a mellow fruity taste followed by a subtle and dry after taste -- kind of like champagne without the bubbles. I think at first we had it chilled a bit too much because once it warmed up a bit, the taste really mellowed a lot. This wine worked really well for us because I tend to like wines that are a little on the fruity side, where my wife likes them a bit on dry side. |

Morande Reserve Sauvignon Blanc Casablanca Valley 2003
Light hues of grass and straw hint at what's to come from this example from the "Reserve" line from large Chilean producer Morande. Aromas of citrus, grapefruit and a touch of fennel mix with minerals and slate. The palette has more of the grapefruit, but also tropical notes of papaya and guava. Light-bodied and with low to medium acidity on the finish. Decent. April 10, 2005 |
