Miles Davis Real Book
Each song in a fake book only has a single melody actually written out in notes, which is usually the vocal or lead melody. This melody will have the lyrics written beneath the notes, with each word aligned to its corresponding note. Above the notes of the melody will appear the names of the appropriate chords to play - for example, a "C minor" chord would be written as "Cmin" or Cm", rather than writing out all of the notes in those chords as they appeared in the original version of the song. |

The New Miles Davis Quintet
Although they had made a few slightly earlier cuts that would later be issued on Columbia, the first full-length album by the Miles Davis Quintet is quite intriguing in that it gives one a look at tenor saxophonist John Coltrane when he still had a hesitant style. This audiophile CD reissue has the same music that is currently available on an Original Jazz Classics set: five jazz standards plus "The Theme." Unlike Coltrane, who would develop rapidly within the next year, Miles was already very much... |

Jamey Aebersold Vol. 7 Book & CD - MILES DAVIS
Intermediate/Advanced Level. Eight classic jazz originals written by Miles Davis. This is a unique way to learn eight of the most popular songs of the Fifties. These tunes are considered jazz classics because most jazz musicians around the world have learned them. And the reason so many jazz musicians have learned them is because they are all such interesting vehicles for improvising and interesting chord changes, altered bridges and logical melodies that have been quoted in many compositions throughout... |

Best of Miles Davis: Collections
A well-sequenced set of eight midtempo pieces recorded by various incarnations of Miles Davis groups for Columbia Records between 1956 and 1984, this compilation is a wonderful listen but selections like "Summertime" and "Bye Bye Blackbird," for instance, really ought to be heard in their original settings to be truly appreciated. ~ Steve Leggett |

Blue Moods, Miles Davis, Music CD
In the '50s, the party line among New York jazz critics was that hard bop was the "true faith" and that cool jazz was lightweight and unemotional. But Miles Davis knew better. The trumpeter (whose Birth of the Cool sessions of 1949-1950 proved to be incredibly influential) was smart enough to realize that cool jazz and hard bop were equally valid parts of the house that Charlie Parker built, and he had no problem working with cool jazzmen one minute and hard boppers the next. Recorded for Charles... |

Cookin' With The Miles Davis Quintet
A seminal session from the team of Miles Davis & John Coltrane – not nearly as "cookin" (at least in a blowing session way) as you might guess from the title, but instead a beautiful example of the lyrically modern explorations the pair created together! Rhythm is by the trio of Red Garland, Paul Chambers, and Philly Joe Jones – but the horn work of Davis and Coltrane are clearly the starring attraction on the set! Titles include "Tune Up", "Blues By Five", and "Airegin" – plus the pair's classic... |
