E. Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape
E. Guigal Chateauneuf du Pape

To reiterate, the 2005 Chateauneuf du Pape is a must buy. Once the old vine Grenache is included in the 2007, that wine may eclipse the 2005, but at present, the 2005 is the finest young Chateauneuf in Guigal-s cellars. It boasts a deep plum/ruby color as well as a rich bouquet of blackberries, kirsch, spice box, pepper, grilled herbs, and meat juices. With supple tannins, full body, and beautiful texture and depth, it should drink nicely for 10-15 years.

Guigal Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2001
Guigal Chateauneuf-du-Pape 2001

This is textbook Chateuneuf - all the elements are there: dark fruit, hot stone, with a bit of white pepper on the finish. However, it cannot be aged for 10-15 years, as this site suggests. It does not have the backbone for that. As the owner of a case, I would not recommend laying it down for more than 9 or 10. Nevertheless, you simply cannot go wrong with this selection. Every lover of CNdP should have at least a couple of bottles in their cellar.
