Giro Havik Sunglasses
I always have problems with pressure points, and the Havik was no exception. Although they were constructed to prevent them, the trade off for the snug fit was a little pain at the base of my skull on longer rides. Also, the lenses have a coating on them to prevent smearing and build up of road spray and sweat. While it worked effectively for prevention, it also made the lenses hard to clean. You can't just wipe them clean with a terry sunglass cloth or your shirt, you need to actually wet the lens... |

Convert
To launch its eyewear brand, Giro consulted with precision optics giant Carl Zeiss, Inc. Zeiss advised Giro on tints for road and MTB use, as well as on polarization, which blocks reflected light. The polarized Convert is great for trail use, although the fit is meant for smaller faces. If you have a larger face, check out Giro's Instigator instead. The lenses aren't photochromic or interchangeable, so choose your tint carefully: The brown lenses are better for brighter trail conditions, and the... |

2012 Giro Selector Helmet
The first thing you'll notice is that it's the first Giro helmet with an eyeshield. Its strict purpose is to further enhance the aero properties of the helmet by smoothing the leading surface. Another tangible benefit you'll realize is a quieter experience as you ride. If nothing else, we've found that this perception of less wind noise acts as a placebo -- less noise, less resistance, more speed, etc. It's removable if you prefer to wear sunglasses, however. The lens also has two vents, located... |

The Cymbal
I like to keep all things in my life as simple as possible. As part of that, I tend to use just one pair of sunglasses for everything-cycling, running, going to the beach, driving. So depending on what I'm doing, I either look silly (because cycling sunglasses only look good on the bike) or end up with lenses that are fogged up or otherwise not very crisp (since casual glasses are usually just designed to look good). The Cymbal glasses actually do transition pretty well from riding to regular life... |
