»La Chaise« was created as an entry for the »Low-Cost Furniture Design« competition held by the Museum of Modern Art in New York. »La Chaise« consists of two paper-thin fiberglass shells glued to each other but separated by hard rubber discs; the intervening space was filled with polystyrene foam. Charles and Ray Eames left the plastic shell un-treated.

La Chaise
This is "La Chaise", a chair designed by Ray and Charles Eames in 1948 for MoMA's International Competition for Low-Cost Furniture Design. Ironically, it was too expensive to produce in large quantities until 1990! I call it the "Ski Chair" because it reminds me of a ski slope covered in a fresh white snow. I also love the clean lines and simplicity of the form.
