Cockscomb Bombay Dark Red
Cockscomb Bombay Dark Red

A magnificent new look for this heat-tolerant, floriferous sun-lover! Instead of the flowers forming a flattened mass, Bombay Dark Red sports upturned, beautifully ruffled blooms resembling exotic coral or fancy ribbonwork. The edges of the bloom are rich pumpkin-orange, shading into dark wine-red below, adding even more depth to the spectacular 4- to 6-inch display. ** Red-Orange Cockscomb **
** Red-Orange Cockscomb **

Germination: Easy germination. Can be started indoors 2-4 weeks prior to last spring frost. Sow seed in container on good seed starting mix. Cover seeds lightly. From my experience, I had difficulty with transplanting seedlings. The plants just didn't do as well (major problem was stunted growth of plant height and size of flower head) as direct sown plants. However...

COLEUS HYBRIDUS GOLDEN COCKSCOMB
COLEUS HYBRIDUS GOLDEN COCKSCOMB

The following descriptions reflect observation of plants grown in bright light locations--shady locales & spring greenhouse conditions result in more green & smoky tones; some like 'Hanover Surprise' seem to change their colors every month no matter how situated! Please be aware that the camera cannot perfectly cope with the true spectrums of Coleuroid reds (which often look mauvish in the shots) and purples (which veer into bluish lilacs sometimes).
