This plant was extremely invasive for me. The seed heads are very interesting, but my plant was planted near a pinyon pine in my backyard and the pine tree and nearby plants were covered by this vine. The pine tree was so covered that its growth became distorted. I found that this clematis spreads far through underground runners.

Grow in fertile, humusy well-drained soil in full sun, with roots and base of the plant in shade. Mulch in late winter with compost or well-rotted manure; avoid covering the crown.
