Ohio had record high temps in the summer of 2006. I started plants from seed and within a few weeks after setting plants out, plants were stunning. Seven feet tall and almost four feet across. My naighbors all wondered what type of plant this was. I have planted this plant about three years in a row however never with the results that I had in the summer of 2006

Giant Zanzibariensis - Castor Bean

I bought seeds for these in 2011 and loved the results for those that I got to sprout. These seedlings have trouble casting off the spent seed pod. Perhaps nick the seeds before planting next time? Also, as another reviewer mentioned, part sun/shade is best. Under those conditions, my plants (that survived the sprouting process) got to easily 10' with leaves 30" across ~ would have gotten bigger if not for our first hard freeze last week. I will definitely order these seeds again. .
