This album, recorded by Gérard Dôle, presents Cajun home music from before World War I. From solo ballads to instrumental dance tunes, this collection explores the musical expressions of descendants of the Acadians who were expelled from Nova Scotia by the British in the French and Indian War.

Of the Louisiana French, the Acadians form the most homogeneous group, coming to the Bayou in small groups after the English dispersion of their Canadian settlement in 1755. These recordings, made 220 years later, are the result of a field trip by Gerard Dole in 1975, and are collected with his notes and bilingual lyrics. Getting together a bunch of well-known musicians known for rock, folk, and country rather than straight ethnic music to perform on a compilation tribute album to a strand of ethnic music is usually a bad idea.
