Directions From jct Hwy 44 & Hwy 22 in Pardeeville: Go 1-1/4 mi N on Hwy 22, then 1 mi W on Haynes Rd.

Location: From I-210 in Sunland, exit at Sunland Blvd. and go east to Oro Vista (Sunland Blvd. becomes Foothill Blvd.), then north to Big Tujunga Canyon Road to Trail Canyon. Hike in about 3.5 miles from Big Tujunga Canyon Road.

Trailhead: Cold Springs Campground. To begin hike, walk up road 300 yards, to Loomis Natural Resource Conservation Area sign. Campground: A Washington DNR facility (Department of Natural Resources). Due to budget constraints, the DNR has been closing facilities, but as of Aug. 2010, the campground was open and no permit required. Driving: From Seattle 5 to 6 hours. Seattle , I-5 north to Hwy 20 West, to Hwy 20/97 to Tonasket, WA (last good supply town), via Highway 7 to Loomis, left on Toats...

Location: From Interstate 210 in Azusa, exit Azusa Ave. (CA 39). Drive 25 miles north on on San Gabriel Canyon Road (CA 39) to the Crystal Lake entrance. Park in the large dirt clearing to the right just before the locked gate. Hike in from Crystal Lake - 3 miles.

Description: 9200ft elevation. 8 camp sites at the edge of the Bridger Wilderness. There is an information kiosk here, where information about hiking the wilderness is available, and a parking lot. An overlook viewing the Wind River Range is nearby. Trails lead from here deep into the wilderness. A horse corral is available. Area activities include hiking, horse riding, and hunting.

Description: 5600 foot elevation. 3 group campsites 2 miles from Pinecrest Lake can accomodate up to 50 people each at 2 sites and 100 people at a third site. Fishing, boating, and swimming in the lake. Hiking trails around the lake. Full resort facilities, including a marina nearby. Campground is open year round and available for winter camping for free up to 20 people. Hiking trail leads 0.5 mile to the lake. Other hiking trails are in the area.

Description: 12 campgrounds and one picnic table on the Blackfoot River. This is the take-out for those floating from the dam or from Cutthroat Creek. From here to Cedar Creek the river is very challenging. Nesting golden eagles, prairie falcons, red-tailed hawks, and great horned owls inhabit the cliffs of this steep canyon. Outside the canyon, upland game birds live in the sage grasslands.

Short bike ride or drive on nearby Forest Road 671 to Trail Creek Summit, where there is a 4.5 mile hike along the ridge to Rattlesnake Point. Other nearby trails include the One Spoon trail and the Bear Wallow trail, accessible from Hardscrabble campground.
