Mixed Cornflower or Bachelor Button Seeds
These are always the first among my wildflowers to bloom. They definitely look better when planted in mass as the dainty flowers can get overlooked if there are other plants growing too close. I did have these planted with Rocket larkspur behind them this year and the colors complimented each other nicely. They are low maintenance and reseed, though I wish I had bought more seed this year, because they didn't come back as thick. |

Blue Boy" Bachelor Button Seeds"
Annual. Summer bloom. 20 - 24" tall. Full sun. Drought tolerant. The sky blue flowers of this tall plant are attractive as cut or dried flowers. Will "naturalize" - the seed drops quite readily from mature plants and comes back next year to produce another crop. Plants get too vegetative and have fewer flowers when grown in rich, over-fertilized soils. In other words, the worse the soil, the better! An additional fun story: When Napoleon forced Queen Louise of Prussia from Berlin, she hid her children... |

Average soils--Wild bachelors' buttons - Seeds--French wildflower
Bachelors' buttons are mostly dark blue, but you'll see an occasional light blue, pink, or white variant. Plant them in full sun in almost any garden soil. They are drought-tolerant, but don't appreciate a waterlogged location. Wild bachelors' buttons make wonderful cutflowers. Be sure to save some of the seed, or just cut the dry plants down in the fall and let them selfsow. They will reward you with generations of bloom. |

They do well in all kinds of soil--we planted them in moist areas and also in dry areas. Check out the photos that follow. Also, if you are a person who loves to... |
