The skid plate attaches to the back of bumper mounts and to front crash bar. The skid plate is made of 3/16" thick aluminum or steel and matches the jeeps front grill. For Hanson Front Bumpers only.

These skids are made from 3/16" thick steel on the bottom and sides, are powder coated, and are completely bolt-on. They are designed to work with hitches as you can see in the picture above left. If you don't already have a hitch you will need to provide the nut plates that fit inside the chassis. You can get them from your friendly Jeep dealer. On 1997-2001 models you'll only need the driver's side nut plate. We just got a set from our local dealer.

The Jeep TJ's coil suspension is wonderful, but it leaves the steering box very vulnerable to rocks. Our TJ steering box skid plate bolts on easily and only requires the drilling of one hole. Constructed of 3/16" thick steel, they fit well and provide serious protection for your vulnerable steering box.

The steering box on most Jeeps is located in a very vulnerable location. These skid plates are almost completely bolt-on and protect the mounting tabs of the lower control arms on the Dana 30 or 44 front axle. Why does this matter? Simply because the mounting tabs are among the first parts to hit the rocks and they are pretty easily damaged.
