I have been a fan of arduino for a long time, and have been amazed at how simple it is to use even for beginners. There is a ton of free support, codes, examples, libraries, and anything you could need online. I have tried the parralax board of education also and will say that it is a bit easier to understand for beginners, but is extremely limited compared to what these can do, and is not much harder at all.
