Baule Figural Harp Musical Instrument African
This object was used as a harp, a common musical instrument found among the Baule and many other peoples from Sub-Saharan Africa. It is sad to say that these instruments are becoming rare to find. They have been replaced in the main by the western style guitar. Such an instrument would have produced a light melodious sound when strummed. It would in fact be held upright on the lap with the strings facing the player with the carved figure on the sound box figuratively and metaphorically facing the... |

Harp of Glory: An African Akathist
The Harp of Glory is a major medieval hymn sounding the praises of the Theotokos, from the heart of the Ethiopian Orthodox Church in its Golden Age. It is a text hardly known in the Orthodox or Western churches, even though it is truly a religious and literary treasure of world significance. It approaches closely to the character and genius of the Byzantine Akathist to the Mother of God (which it seems to know in part) but is so profoundly rooted in a different indigenous experience that it surely... |

Zande/Azande Figural Harp 7 Feet Tall DR Congo Stunning African Art
The word "azande" means "people who possess much land," which is appropriate considering the wide swath of land that they occupy today. Thought to have originated in The Sudan, they were a warrior people who relocated during the 18th century to the northern part of the eastern Congo, along the Uele River. Their system of "government" is based on the royal lineage whose origin is traced to the family "Avangara." The king rules with the help of his sons, who fan out into the various provinces... |

Kora - etude for harp
This book consists of one very original piece set in F major. It is considered an etude for harp. The song is reminiscent of west-African culture, with its repeated notes and cross-rhythms. The rhythmic patterns and time signature changes keep the piece interesting and fun to play. It would be a unique piece to add to any music library. It is an intermediate level piece and can be played on lever harps. |

O'Carolan Harp Tunes for Mountain Dulcimer
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, London based author and playwright Bonnie Greer seeks to demonstrate that Barack Obama's Presidency is what she calls a 'South Side Presidency.' And that it is only the South Side of Chicago, with its history and culture and institutions that could have sent an African American, in this day and age, to the White House. "Obama Music" is a mixture of anecdotes about her own growing up in one of America's most formidable Black communities, mixed in with... |
