Actaea pachypoda 'Misty Blue
An exquisite native for the woodland garden. In spring, delicate white flowers are framed by soft, bluish-green ferny foliage. Fruits are unusual, the white 'Doll's Eye' berries, each marked by a black dot. These persist for 4-6 weeks in autumn, atop bright red pedicels. [Misty Blue Doll's Eyes ] And is it ever blue! Foliage is very distinctive light bluish-silver over green that truly lights up a shady corner. Same growth habit of 2 to 3 feet in height and spreads to the same width over time with multiple stems. Blooms in spring and resemble white bottle brushes in a dome shape well above the leaves. Pollinated flowers turn to white berries with black dots, or eyes, each one at the end of a reddish pedicel in summer. Twice the bang for your garden buck.

Native woodland perennial forms a sizable multi-stemmed clump of soft blue-green astilbe-like foliage and is similar to Cimicifuga in habit. A dependable, low maintenance, long-lived perennial once established. In late spring to early summer, small clusters of white flowers are produced just above the foliage. These flowers develop into panicles of showy white fruits which are borne on red pedicels in autumn for 4 to 6 weeks.
