This huge, copper-colored, bottle-conditioned ale is the latest from the tiny brewery at the St. Benedictus Abbey at Achel, in the Northeast of Belgium. You will find this a very satisfying beer, with just a little malt sweetness, dried fruit flavors, warm sherry notes, and a brisk balancing backdrop of fresh hop bitterness.

This mouthful of a brewery is one of only a handful or true Trappist producers, meaning the brewery is located in a Trappist monastery. Brouwerij der St.Benedictusabdij de Achelse, located in the Achel monastery in Belgium, restored its beer making facilities in 1998 and only started to sell bottled ale commercially in 2004. The Brune includes the addition of caramel to give a darker appearance and a greater emphasis on grainy malt flavors, with a spicy hop finish completing the delicious authentically...

This beer poured a very cloudy dark brown with some sediment present. It formed a nice off white bubbly head that left circular lace. Some carbonation is present. An aroma of malt, caramel and a touch of cherry. A flavor of malt and caramel. The finish was a touch astrigent with a bit of sweetness to it. Overall I am not as big on dubbels as other styles of Belgians. But all in all, this is another nice beer from this brewer.
