Loved the book, tried the VHS series expecting Peter Mayles' wit and got a grumpy John Thaw (as mentioned by another reviewer) and a whole lot of French speaking townspeople and neighbors, FAR TOO MUCH FRENCH, which made the plots difficult to follow.
