A strong competitor to the Nikon 28-70 f/2.8 zooms, the Tamron is smaller, lighter and quite a bit cheaper. Its nearly as sharp as the Nikkor especially stopped down to f4, but maybe not quite as good in the edges and corners wide open. Autofocuses accurately and about as quickly as the Nikkor zooms.
