2007 Carter Cellars Merlot Truchard Vineyard
(includes 5% petit verdot) Good deep ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry, blueberry, minerals and white pepper, with a suggestion of hard candy. Silky on entry, then suave and cool in the middle, with flavors of black fruits and bitter chocolate. Finishes with a very firm tannic structure and subtle power. Carter told me he uses the petit verdot to add color and to round out the atypically powerful Truchard merlot. 90(+?) points
