Lail 2007 J. Daniel Cuvee - Bordeaux Blends Red Wine
Lail 2007 J. Daniel Cuvee - Bordeaux Blends Red Wine

Red Wine by Lail from Napa Valley, California. If I had to use one word to describe this wine, it would be 'seamless.' Complex notes of cocoa, charcoal, black fruits, and pencil lead give a sense of amazing complexity. Powerful and seductive, this wine lingers on the palate for more than 20 seconds. As the 2006 reminded us of Chateau Latour from Pauillac in Bordeaux, the 2007 would be more reminiscent of the great wines from Chateau Margaux.

Lail 2005 J. Daniel Cuvee
Lail 2005 J. Daniel Cuvee

93 Points , Stephen Tanzer – “Good full medium ruby. Black cherry, cassis and licorice on the slightly medicinal nose. Pliant, juicy and spicy, with good grip to the flavors of dark berries, plum and bittersweet chocolate; this reminded me of a St. Julien. Nicely tactile wine, finishing persistent and complex, with dusty tannins. A very successful vintage for this wine.”

Black currant, crushed rock, licorice, asphalt, graphite, and chocolate characteristics are present in this full-bodied effort. With excellent purity, depth, and delineation, it should drink beautifully for 20+ years. Lail Vineyards Proprietary Red J. Daniel Cuvee -- 2008 (3L)

Rated 91-93 points by Stephen Tanzer`s International Wine Cellar: `Good full, bright ruby. Explosive nose offers crushed black fruits, clove oil and a hint of woodsmoke; there`s something syrah-like about this. Then deep, sweet and vibrant, with plum and spicy oak flavors framed by strong but nicely integrated acidity. Finishes brisk, even a bit peppery, with a continuing impression of energy.`

Lail Vineyards Proprietary Red J. Daniel Cuvee -- 2004
Lail Vineyards Proprietary Red J. Daniel Cuvee -- 2004

Rated 94+ points by Robert Parker`s Wine Advocate: `Robin Lail, one of the top women of the Napa wine scene, is also the daughter of the legendary John Daniel, who did so much to raise the image of Napa Cabernet Sauvignon. Lail and her winemaker, Philippe Melka, were among the first to recognize the potential of a Bordeaux-styled, barrel-fermented and aged Sauvignon Blanc. Aged 18 months in French wood, this Sauvignon is totally different from the overtly fruity styles so prevalent elsewhere. Lail...
