Description The 2007 Narsai David vineyards showcases aromas of deep dark fruits, blackberry, plum and currants, and a hint of leather with floral qualities that lead to a nice palette integrated with oak components of all spice and carries the weight of the cabernet tannins into a long finish of sweet dark chocolate and dark berries that stays for a few minutes from its well balanced acidity. One of Napa Valley’s most beautiful vineyards is Don Bryant’s vineyard high on Pritchard Hill, just below Colgin and Tim Mondavi’s Continuum and not far from such other benchmark properties as Chappellet, Del Dotto and David Arthur. These are all 100% Cabernet Sauvignon, but the production rarely passes 1,000 cases, even in the most abundant vintages. Don Bryant told me he is also launching a second wine called DB Four but I did not taste it.

A virtually unknown winery until they released a pair of spectacular 1996 Cabernet Sauvignon in 1998. With Bob Egelhoff as winemaker, there is no slowing down. This wine has quickly become one of the most collectable in the world. A nose of massive cherry, cassis, and warm mocha spice lead to a palate of superbly polished oak, black cherry, cedar, cassis, and fig. Very limited quantities of this wine are available.

The deep ruby/purple-hued 2008 Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a sweet bouquet of black currants, licorice and subtle barbecue smoke in the background. Medium to full-bodied with good density, ripeness and purity, it lacks complexity and nuance, but it is a solidly made Cabernet to drink over the next decade. 88 Points Wine Advocate

Bob Egelhoff has been a winemaker in Napa Valley for nearly thirty years, during which time he helped create the wines at such blue chips as Harlan, Pahlmeyer and David Arthur. He has been largely concentrating on his eponymous project beginning in 2008. The Egelhoff brand premiered in the 1999 vintage and sources fruit from a single site, Glendale Vineyard above Lake Hennessey.
