2005 Clos Celeste Minervois La Livinière
2005 Clos Celeste Minervois La Livinière

This wine is a blend of Syrah and Mourvedre and is a complete powerhouse of a wine. Inky black with gobs of blackberry, prunes and cassis on the nose, the palate is full-bodied, expansive and loaded with vanilla. This is almost a meal in itself and will need only the heartiest of steaks to stand up to its intensity.

2005 Muscat de Saint Jean de Minervois Clos du Gravillas "Douce Providence" (500ml)
2005 Muscat de Saint Jean de Minervois Clos du Gravillas "Douce Providence" (500ml)

Clos du Gravillas vines grow on a gravel plateau, midway between the Languedoc appellations of Saint Chinian and Minervois in the Parc Naturel du Haut Languedoc. Here, Nicole and John Bojanowski work 5 hectatres of vines and produce a mere 1200 cases a year. This is a micro estate to the max! Although Nicole and John consider the once very maligned carignan grape to be their passion, something must be said for their sweet wine. It is one of THE best Muscat vin doux that I have ever tasted. Pineapple...

Domaine de Montahuc-Muscat de Saint Jean Minervois-Vin Doux Naturel, 500 ML-2005

Byodynamic winery (in fact, the entire appellation is bio-dynamic) in the Roussillon, Southwest France. Vin Doux Naturel, i.e. lightly fortified. Delicious dessert wine. Tastes just like a fresh apricot tart! Great value, to boot. Drink all by itself or with very fresh goat cheese.

2005 Pommard, Clos de la Platiere, Domaine Prince de Mérode
2005 Pommard, Clos de la Platiere, Domaine Prince de Mérode

Pommard "Clos de la Platière", 20% Premier Cru and the rest villages, offers a rich mid-palate and dark, supple balanced fruit with lots of power and weight. Allen Meadows writes: "A touch of reduction can't hide the otherwise ripe red berry fruit and distinct earth notes that continue onto the rich, full and moderately rustic flavors where the tannins are well integrated on the supple and smooth finish. This isn't overly complex but it should make for a fine villages." (Burghound 04/07)

2005 Pommard, Clos de la Commaraine, Louis Jadot (Pre-Arrival)

- One of France's most legendary grapes and the grape that earned Burgundy its reputation. The parent of varietals like Pinot Gris/Grigio and Pinot Blanc, Pinot Noir is blue to violet to indigo in color with relatively thin skins, and it is said to have been cultivated in France for more than 2,000 years. At its best, Pinot Noir creates elegant wines that are filled with primary red fruit aromas and flavors while young, revealing with an array of secondary characteristics like earth, smoke, violet...

2005 Volnay 1er Cru, Clos de la Bousse d'Or, Domaine de la Pousse d'Or
2005 Volnay 1er Cru, Clos de la Bousse d'Or, Domaine de la Pousse d'Or

Sweet Spot Outstanding, and 91-93 Points from Allen Meadows: "Here the strikingly elegant and expressive nose is a step up in aromatic depth with real depth to the airy, pure and stunningly complex dark berry fruit aromas nuanced by hints of spice and warm iron-infused earth that give way to rich, full and sweet flavors that are harmonious, balanced, fresh and precise, all wrapped in a wonderfully seductive and long finish. An impressive effort that is well worth a look." (Burghound, 04/07)
