It has a lot of material, illustrations and is very entertaining. I do not recommend it as a beginner's first book on chess (look at "Chess for Everyone" for a beginning guide) as it has a format that is not too user friendly if you no little or nothing about chess. But, but a book to peak someone's basic interest (who knows the very basics) or as a gift this book fills the bill.
