Despite its name, 'Frisée d'Amerique' is an old French cutting lettuce which was listed in Vilmorin's catalog. Its delicate, tender leaves are flushed with red. In the category of 'winter lettuces,' it can be fall-sown for early spring crops, or sown as a spring lettuce. Will head up if thinned. Certified organic seed.

This French endive forms a heart of finely-cut, frilly leaves which are mild and delicious. Compact (to 8 in.) variety grows well in a variety of soils. Endive prefers cool growing conditions, similar to lettuce. The inner leaves are generally sweeter than outer leaves. Can be harvested with their roots in the fall. For blanched leaves without bitterness, uproot mature heads, prune severely, and plant again in darkness for two to three weeks. Biennial.(46-60 days)
