The third NCAA Football game on Xbox 360 features a revamped graphics engine for improved animations, online dynasties supporting up to 12 players, and a more heightened atmosphere than in previous versions. The new graphics engine allows players to freely break in or out of moves instead of having to wait until each spin, juke, or stiff-arm finishes its animation cycle. The end result is designed to give players more direct control on the field, allowing them to quickly read and react to situations as they develop. Another new option is the ability to "ice the kicker." Implementing this strategy causes the kicking meter to turn frosty, partially obstructing the power meter, and changes the default camera angle to a view closer to the field. Online fans can now create dynasty leagues supporting custom rules, rosters, and other user-defined settings. NCAA Football 08 spends another season on the Xbox 360 by adding a "Campus Legend" mode where gamers must begin as a greenhorn high school player and work their way up in status and skill. After completing an all-star championship series against other regional high schools, players are presented with a list of colleges interested in having their abilities on the field. Gamers begin as the lowest rated team member, and must spend time earning practice points in order to advance up the roster. Players may spend their free time playing basketball, going to movies, or studying. On the field, gamers can influence other players and lead the action during plays with the Leadership Control. Improvements with the Hit Stick allow smaller players to low tackle larger opponents who sport shoulders of steel.
