All of the daylily species now recognized originally natives of the far east. The plants were valued throughout the Orient for medicine and food as well as beauty and appear often in Oriental art and legends. There was no native species of daylily in North America. The tawny and lemon daylilies were among the first species to be brought to the American continent.
