Bascinet with Chain Mail

13th Century "camail" warriors helm! The term "camail" is an ancient term meaning "curtain-mail" describing the protective curtain of chainmail hung from the helm that draped the neck to the shoulders in battle. Historically a plate gorget was also worn with this helm along with chainmail body armour for extra protection. Examples may be seen today in church brass castings. This fully wearable historical helm is made of 18 gauge steel and is a rare find!

The earliest Scottish clansmen were strong and fearless. They wielded large swords with a simple yet powerful design. One of these legends was a man named William Wallace, who could have carried an early Scottish claymore sword just as this in battle. Although not displayed in conjunction with the helms at museums, the bascinet with mail is present on almost all of the grave effigies. It made for superior head protection. This can be worn under the Great Helm or alone for foot combat. Adjustable liner.
