This documentary uses photographic evidence, painstakingly curtailed from private collections, as well as restored footage from films including Edison's RESCUED FROM AN EAGLE'S NEST. D.W. Griffith was an early patron of the studios, and his film THE NEW YORK HAT is also included here, amongst a veritable treasure trove of early American filmmaking.
