I'm looking for a DVR or DVD-R with DVR ( ie, Hard Drive based VCR) that does not require a subscription to a service like TiVo. Do any of you have a unit like this or know of any that are resonably good? Phillips has a unit that is rated quite high by users that I'll be checking out but I'd like to investigate other units as well.
