This mattress is very necessary if you are purchasing one of the DaVinci mini cribs. The DaVinci mini crib we ordered came with a pad but it is definitely not adequate for a baby to sleep on. As someone previously stated in a review this is a MINI mattress for a MINI crib, this is not a full size mattress (it clearly says that in the title and description!).
