I didn't have a problem with the click mechanism after following the note at the bottom of the instructions. I did find that the bushings had a larger hole than the mandrel and thus the wood and the bushings were hard to align when turning. The only way I could get the threaded collar into the wood part was to thread it onto the cushion part and press all together.
