Sterling's rather spectacular vision of the future was further refined in 1985's SCHISMATRIX and several subsequent stories...

Jackie Chan shines in his role as Passepartout, who masquerades as Fogg's valet in an attempt to escape authorities after he robs the Bank of England. As he evades his enemies and keeps Fogg in the dark about his true background, Chan provides stellar comedic action and performs daring stunts. Celebrity cameos punctuate the film, with Arnold Schwarzenegger playing a polygamous Turkish ruler (filmed before the start of his campaign for California governor) and Owen and Luke Wilson playing the hilariously...

Around the World in 80 Days
The thing Jules Verne concentrates most on during Around the World in Eighty Days is how precise Phileas Fogg is. In the beginning, Mr. Fogg fires his servant because the water he brought him to shave in was four degrees of the correct temperature. I thought this was quite comic. When Mr. Fogg hires Passerpartout, he instructs him exactly when to prepare breakfast, exactly how hot his water should be and many other silly things. When Phileas is talking to his friends after making his bet he told...

Razzle-dazzle showman Michael Todd hocked everything he had to make this spectacular presentation of Jules Verne's 1872 novel Around the World in 80 Days, the second film to be lensed in the wide-screen Todd-AO production. Nearly as fascinating as the finished product are the many in-production anecdotes concerning Todd's efforts to pull the wool over the eyes of local authorities in order to cadge the film's round-the-world location shots--not to mention the wheeling and dealing to convince over...

Around the World in 80 Days
The game has just the right mix of strategy, luck, interaction. I'd rate the strategy a 3 or 4 out of 5, add in a 1 or 2 for luck to make it a bit more interesting and a 2 for interaction. The goal is to make it around the world as fast as you can, yet efficiently. You may be the first to make it, but did you spend too much? The game is very easy to learn and plays in about one hour.

Theme : Around the World in 80 days is a great family game based on Jules Verne's classic novel. A simple set of rules lets the youngest members of the family get involved, while the link to the popular story keeps things interesting and might even get the children interested in Jules Verne's classic. Players must travel around the world, racing against one another by playing the necessary travel cards while deciding on movement or events at each turn. AROUND THE WORLD IN 80 DAYS
The end result is probably my favorite game so far from the 2004 Essen crop. There is quite a bit of luck flitting about, as there are so many cards and tiny vestiges of mean-spiritedness in the game. But this odd soup of cards and mechanics offers some tricky choices and quite a bit of drama. Players choose the card you DESPERATELY need, shove the detective in your path, or suddenly rush ahead leaving you dangerously far behind the pack. On your turn, you are frequently torn between hanging back...
