"The sweet and tart flavors of ripe, red cherry and cranberry are accented by hints of vanilla, earth and spice. Lingering notes of cinnamon and clove spice round out the finish. 2006 was a warm year and experience in the cellar created a wine with flavors in balance with acids and alcohol. Drink now-2012.

An elegant, supple and stylish wine. Vibrant aromas of black cherries, brown sugar, spices, rose petals, vanilla and typical "Pinot Noir dust". Initial spicy flavors of nutmeg and barrel toast with ripe flavors of strawberries and cherries and mineral overtones. The mouth feel is soft, round and warm in sensation with and almost sweet and juicy impression of ripe fruit. The finish is long with lingering flavors of spices, well integrated oak, ripe sweet tannins and good acidity.

"Our Marcile Lorraine wines are named after Craig's mother. They always come from 2 acres located at the top of our estate vineyard, above our Claudia's Choice blocks at around 600-ft. A blend of older Pommard and Wadensvil clones planted in 1983 on a lyre trellis. Usually harvested last, the Marcile Lorraine grapes are partially destemmed and then fermented in 600 gallon open top French oak fermenters. These wines are aged in tight grained new French oak for 12 months, and are bottled unfined and...

From Stephen Tanzer's International Wine Cellar: "Light red. Spicy strawberry and raspberry aromas are complicated by dusty minerals and dried flowers. Racy and sharply focused, with vivid red fruit flavors, silky texture and good mineral lift. Finishes clean and brisk, with good fruit drive and no rough edges." (May/June '08) A Chehalem Pinot Noir made from fruit blended from the winery's three estate vineyards: Ridgecrest, Stoller and Corral Creek. The resulting wine combines the three vineyards...

"Intense aromas of black cherries are prominent on the nose with hints of mocha and vanilla. A full and rich mouth feel with ample amounts of fruit are complemented with dark Chocolate and a slight fennel spice on the mid-palate providing a juicy yet layered and interesting pinot that is both structured and supple at the same time."

On a recent trip to Oregon a friend recommended I stop by the tasting room at Willametter Valley Vineyards, south of Salem, OR. I was blown away by their wine, and pricing structure. Their 2004 Pinot Noir at $22 must be the best value coming from Oregon. Unfortunately they had sold out other intriguing options but I got a case of this, and their older Cuvee ($40 but really beautiful). Now I am on their mailing list and I won't miss having full choice next year! Great value in the $22 PN

"As refreshing as liquid fruit salad in a glass, this wine opens with explosive aromas of wild strawberry, raspberry, black cherry, and a hint of smoke and anise. Flavors mirror the aromas and are complemented by balanced, soft tannins and ripe acidity. Juicy flavors lead to a juicy pomegranite finish. This wine holds an elegant, refined weight on the palate throughout, inviting another sip. Meant to drink young. Enjoy this wine now through 2012.

Featuring aromas of bright black cherry, strawberry, and briar, this earthy pinot noir is youthfully lean and warm following through the palate with an additional hint of vanilla. This wine is complex, well-balanced and enjoyable now with the ageing potential to reward those with the discipline to lay down a bottle or two.

This might be likened to a Beaujolais-style Oregon Pinot, with bright, snappy fruit flavors and plenty of the penetrating herbal stemminess common to Oregon Pinots. Light, fruity and well made, this might be the perfect hot dog wine.

87 points, Wine Spectator, December 31, 2008 Light, polished and fragrant, showing more spice than fruit, with a mocha-nutmeg overlay to the modest berry and orange peel flavors. Drink now. 88 points, Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar, May/Jun 2009 Light red. Wild strawberry and raspberry aromas are pleasantly straightforward, picking up gentle spiciness with air. Willamette Valley Vineyards Oregon Pinot Noir 2003
Ripe and round aromas of black cherries, tar, roasted mushrooms and forest floor dominate. Lighter and less brooding on the palate, with sweet red cherries, pie crust, roasted mushrooms and a silky texture. Like a warm cherry pie. With a little oak. Warm pie with oak. Yup.

We prefer our Pinot Noir on the elegant, classic side of the style spectrum. If that is the sort of Pinot that you like, you will love the Windhill Pinot Noir from Elk Cove. This wine is full of ripe, red fruit with notes of cinnamon and cloves. The wine has a silky mouth feel. The oak is there, but appears to be integrating with the fruit very well. To experience all that this wine has to offer, you should hold on to some for 5 or 6 years. It's going to be a beautiful thing to behold - and drink.

From seven excellent vineyards near the Pacific Ocean. This wine appreciates a big Burgundy glass to stretch and blossom. Nicely rich with flavors of spicy plum pudding, pomegranate, truffle, red & black cherries. 1/3 new French oak adds texture and vanilla. Fine cool-climate acidity. The fruit blossoms with air.
