Thyroid Profile (T3T4T7)
The thyroid gland uses iodine from the food that you eat to make the thyroid hormones, thyroxine (T4) and triiodothyronine (T3). The thyroid gland then stores the T3 and T4 and releases them as they are needed to control your body's metabolism.

Test includes: Thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) with automatic reflex (as diagnostically warranted) to free thyroxine, free tri-iodothyronine, and/or thyroid peroxidase (TPO) antibodies. If reflex testing is performed, additional charges/CPT code(s) may apply.

Also known as: Free thyroxine index; T3 uptake (THBR); thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH); thyroxine (T4). Thyroid testing is primarily ordered to help diagnose an autoimmune thyroid disease and to separate it from other forms of thyroiditis. It may be ordered to help investigate the cause of an enlarged thyroid gland (goiter) and/or performed as a follow-up when other thyroid test results (such as T3, T4, and/or TSH) show signs of thyroid dysfunction.
