The Casablanca Valley, north of the capital, Santiago, works like a vacuum, sucking in the cool air of the Pacific Ocean. For a long time Chilean winegrowers ignored the region, assuming it was too cool to ripen grapes for quality wines. Some experiments in the 1980s proved otherwise, and the region went on to establish itself as South America’s best source for elegant, complex white wines. Chardonnay does particularly well there, developing rich tropical fruit aromas without becoming fat and cloying...

Outstanding, rich Carneros Chardonnay from one of Napa’s best vineyards. Two masters: Larry Hyde grows the grapes & David Ramey makes the wine. Nose of buttered wheat toast, white peach, lemon zest & curd. Long, complex finish. One of the few Cal Chards where you really get “minerality.”

Thunderstone 2006 Chardonnay, Carneros
The Carneros region, straddling southern Napa and Sonoma is a unique microclimate. Warm and sunny but tempered by the cooling effects of the San Pablo Bay and the Pacific ocean it's an ideal site for Chardonnay and Pinot Noir. Here's a lush Carneros Chardonnay with intense flavors that shows why this region is one of the best in the world for growing Chardonnay. Fermented slowly and then aged in French oak this wine is buttery and ripe, with pear apple and pineapple flavors that satisfy and linger...

Peter and Arpad Molnar grew up helping farm the family vineyard at the water’s edge in Carneros. Since the early 1970’s their chardonnay has been sold to well-known wineries (Phelps, Pride). This is the 3rd vintage of MF Chardonnay from Poseidon’s Vineyard and it is awesome. Gorgeous pear, apple, and sweet cream taste. Their other business in Hungary, a barrel cooperage, gives the wine a fully toasted finish. Swim fast salmon.

Chardonnay grapes grown on our cool-climate Carneros Estate vineyard underwent traditional European winemaking practices of barrel fermentation and aging on the lees (“sur-lie”). Additional complexity was contributed by Chardonnay grown on the Sangiacomo, Ricci, Stille and Wood Valley vineyards. The result is a wine with the powerful elegance of the finest white Burgundy. It has a ripe, spicy tropical bouquet with flavors that suggest citrus, pear and apple-butter. Well-balanced acidity gives it...

One of our favorite, local BIG & BUTTERY Chardonnays. Smell & taste brown butter, butterscotch, apple butter (getting the idea?) and toasty pear tart. Very rich texture and long-lasting finish. Mi Sueño: “My Dream” Rolando Herrera, Owner/Winemaker.

B. Kosuge-Pinot Noir-"The Shop" Carneros-2006
Packs everything that's good about Carneros Pinot into the bottle: bright aromatics, sweet cherry, silky mouthfeel, juicy mid-palat. It is simply delicious. Byron Kosuge, Owner/Winemaker, has a nice piece of land (next to a farming work shop) for this fairly priced, easy-to-love Pinot Noir.
