The World Without Us (Reprint) (Paperback)
Description As compelling as the best science fiction, Alan Weisman's well-researched book asks readers to imagine a planet earth divested of ****** sapiens. Weisman suggests that within a relatively short time buildings would fall, streets would become waterways, infrastructures would crumble, and the food chain would undergo massive reshuffling. (Good-bye, poodles Welcome back, Molokai Creepers) The purpose of this gloomy visualization is to demonstrate the deeply-grooved footprint that humans...

June 12, 2009: The World Without Us is an excellent book that grasps the readers mind. It shows the earth today in a journey to return to its former self. The impact of humans on earth is great topic and this book was a real eye opener. I found it to be very detailed and it contained solid facts that were backed up by great research. I found it hard to understand at some point where Mr.Weisman deviates from the topic. The topics on there own are very good minus the fact that it feels...

The World Without Us
A penetrating, page-turning tour of a post-human Earth In The World Without Us, Alan Weisman offers an utterly original approach to questions of humanity’s impact on the planet: he asks us to envision our Earth, without us.In this far-reaching narrative, Weisman explains how our massive infrastructure would collapse and finally vanish without human presence; which everyday items may become immortalized as fossils; how copper pipes and wiring would be crushed into mere seams of reddish rock; why some...

In his revelatory, bestselling account, Alan Weisman draws on every field of science to present an environmental assessment like no other, the most affecting portrait yet...

I started the book with good intentions, being your average, every-day environmentally conscious person. But I just couldn't bring myself to finish it. The book had interesting new details, such as the primitive forest at Belarus that I'd never heard about before. But once I got half way through, and started reading about how devastatingly bad the plastic pollution of our planet has become, I just couldn't read any more. I like to keep up with news of the environment, but there's only so much...

Only by posing this pressing question can we begin to understand the effects that the decisions...
