MOVIE DVD - Series creator Aaron Sorkin and longtime director Thomas Schlamme bowed out after Season 4, leaving network executives and viewers somewhat apprehensive about the future of this highly regarded series. And, indeed, many West Wing fans claim that the show lost its way during this year. But the 2003-4 run suffers only by comparison to the earlier ones; there are many great episodes among those collected in this box set. The season opener picks up with the daughter of President Josiah Bartlet (Martin Sheen) in the hands of kidnappers, compelling the distraught chief executive to relinquish the presidency to Speaker Walken (John Goodman) in the absence of a vice president. The hard-nosed Republican successor subsequently launches an attack on Qumar, and Bartlet is humbled by the disclosure that he authorized the assassination of a Qumari terrorist. Reportedly, Goodman's character was to have played a more prominent role in Season 5, but Zoey Bartlet is quickly rescued and Josiah reclaims the Oval Offi

But with series creator Aaron Sorkin continuing to write or co-write all 22 episodes, The West Wing managed...

West Wing: The Complete First Season
Debuting September 22, 1999, NBC's multi-award-winning The West Wing was America's first truly successful political drama series. Producer Aaron Sorkin had allegedly created the property to make fuller use of the White House interior sets built for his 1999 theatrical film, The American President . Whatever the case, the weekly, hour-long series disproved the long-held theory that the American TV viewing public was bored stiff by fictional political intrigue. The series was largely set during the...
