John Dover Wilson's New Shakespeare, published between 1921 and 1966, became the classic Cambridge edition of Shakespeare's plays and poems until the 1980s. The series, long since out-of-print, is now reissued. Each work is available both individually and as a set, and each contains a lengthy and lively introduction, main text, and substantial notes and glossary printed at the back. The edition, which began with The Tempest and ended with The Sonnets, put into practice the techniques and theories that had evolved under the 'New Bibliography'. Remarkably by today's standards, although it took the best part of half a century to produce, the New Shakespeare involved only a small band of editors besides Dover Wilson himself. As the volumes took shape, many of Dover Wilson's textual methods acquired general acceptance and became an established part of later editorial practice, for example in the Arden and New Cambridge Shakespeares.

Description Two sets of twins, both separated during a shipwreck that occurred 23 years before the present drama unfolds, convolute the absurd plot of Shakespeare's most farcical play. The composition of this, his shortest work, is commonly dated between 1592 and 1594; scholarship has placed its probable first performance on December 28, 1594 at the Gray's Inn, London. THE COMEDY OF ERRORS was included in the FIRST FOLIO, 1623, and is classified in Shakespeare's oeuvre as a comedy. The action precipitates...

These are the first two titles in Penguin's newly revamped "Pelican Shakespeare" series. The Pelicans have been the leading editions for many years, but the publisher realized that much new scholarship on the plays has been unearthed since the series was introduced. The Comedy of Errors is likely the very first play Shakespeare ever wrote, and for that reason alone it deserves a special place in literary history....

One of the earliest and perhaps crudest of his plays, The Comedy of Errors is Shakespeares adaptation of the Menaechmi of Plautus. This romantic comedy from the Stratford Shakespeare Festival tells of the complications which follow when the merchant Aegeon, played masterfully in this production by Nicholas Pennell, enters the enemy state of Ephesus in hopes of reuniting his family years after a shipwreck separates him from his twin sons, their twin slaves, and his wife. The Comedy Of Errors (the Cambridge Dover Wilson Shakespeare) (oxford World's Classics; The Oxford Shakespeare) (paperback) - By William Shakespeare
In the Shakespearean play that most closely resembles farce, two sets of identical twins, each separated for years, arrive in Ephesus, setting off a madcap series of events and leaving a trail of confusion and mistaken identity in their wake. While evoking one of Shakespeare s recurring themes--the restorative power of love--this early work contains some of the playwright s developing insights on the human condition and presents a portrait of women s various roles in Elizabethan society. With an introduction from Shakespearean scholar Harold Bloom, plus a plot synopsis and a brief biography of Shakespeare, this volume of critical essays will assist students studying The Comedy of Errors.

Mix-ups and mayhem abound in this comedic romp featuring two sets of twins, both separated at birth, all of whom wind up in the same city.
