Tenuta Sette Ponti's second release was the 1999 vintage Oreno, named after a stream which runs through the estate. The blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot from vines of an average age of 15 to 20 years results in an internationally-styled, super Tuscan wine. The wine's dense, violet color suggests its Cabernet component which is confirmed in aromas of cassis, black stone fruit and wild cherries offset by notes of herbs, spice and sweet oak. These carry into ripe, densely fruited palate...

"The 2007 Oreno (50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot) is a silky, perfumed wine endowed with gorgeous layers of fruit that flow with notable weight and richness. This is an especially harmonious, seamless Oreno that is all class. The 100% new oak is felt slightly on the finish, but the wine should find an even better balance with some bottle age. This is a lovely effort. Anticipated maturity: 2010-2019." 92 points, Robert Parker's Wine Advocate, Issue 184 Aug 2009

The sizzling summer heat in Tuscany in 2003 overwhelmed this estate's early-ripening Merlot, so owner Antonio Moretti took consulting enologist Carlo Ferrini's advice to omit the customary 25 percent Merlot in this blend. The result was an even mix of the best Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese from the estate's 136 acres of vineyards, which include some 70-year-old Sangiovese vines. Oreno is aged in new oak barrels for 18 months, is not filtered before it is bottled, and rests for a year before being...

2006 Tenuta Sette Ponti Oreno (Tuscany)
The 2006 Oreno (50% Sangiovese, 25% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Merlot) combines elements of ripeness and firm, vibrant structure in a beautifully-balanced, gorgeous wine. Tar, smoke, licorice, new leather and menthol notes emerge, adding layers of expressiveness to the dark fruit. This is a powerful Oreno made in a less immediate style than the 2007. With time, though, the wines inner sweetness comes through, suggesting that this wine has a very bright future. Anticipated maturity: 2012-2021. 93 points...

Dense brilliant ruby with a bright hint of purple. Voluptuous and exotic on the nose with racy cassis aromas mixed with ripe cherries and just a note of cabernet mint and licorice. - Once named Enotria for its abundant vineyards, Italy (thanks to the ancient Greeks and Romans) has had an enormous impact on the wine world. From the shores of Italy, the Romans brought grapes and their winemaking techniques to North Africa, Spain and Portugal, Germany, France, the Danube Valley, the Middle East and even England. Modern Italy, which didn't actually exist as a country until the 1870s, once produced mainly simple, everyday wine. It wasn't until the 1970s that Italy began the change...
