These are my favorite yarn swifts. Beautifully finished, and the threads on the two bolts are very well done and clean. They are a finely finished birch for supporting skeins of yarn of various sizes. The medium size is said to hold up to a 60" circumference skein, but the way I measure it, I can get a 70" circumference hank of yarn on it. I've set this one up in the store. What better way to determine how good or bad a swift is! And it spins more freely than any other wood swift we've been...

How It Works - This unit generates a unique and distinctive diamond-shaped patterned ball as a result of its complex rotation. Two things must happen at the same time in order to wind a perfect ball. The whole drive wheel assembly must rotate as the crank is turned and it must also smoothly revolve on the clear plastic drive cone. Because of this off-center rotation, the ball winder must be clamped to a work surface. It is important not to wind the ball too fast. Doing so will distort the red bracket...

This is a great tool to add to your spinning tools. If you add a power group using the square wheel technology you can also use this as Skein Winder. Put one of each on the table and you will have a great working combination. Put your skein on the Swift, attach the yarn to the Babe Aid on the Skein Winder, step on the motor controller and you'll have the yarn reskeined to the size you want. This will also sit on your BABE spinning wheel. NOTE: The base is an optional Portable Stand.

The Leclerc metal reel may be clamped to a table top for use as a skeiner or a swift. It is adjustable for different sizes of skeins, from 45 in to 60 in. The easy-to-turn crank handle and the 4 flat yarn surfaces make it an excellent choice for winding even skeins for dyeing. Works well as a swift, for unwinding too! Be careful when loosening the center size regulator, not to loosen too much, just enough to loosen arms for re-sizing.

Tensioning - Ordinarily, if you mount the meter above the yarn source, and if the yarn source has some tension built in (such as a spinning wheel bobbin or a ball of yarn sitting on the floor), then the yarn supply will create the necessary tension to maintain a taut feed of yarn going into the meter which is necessary to ensure that the drive wheel is engaged. On some lighter weight yarns or where there is an inadequate amount of tension being created at the yarn source, then...
