(Hosta) This award winning hosta has 16 inch wide, egg shaped leaves that are ribbed and glossy to provide good slug resistance. Hosta 'Sum and Substance' prefers sunlight for ¼ to ¾ of the day which in turn will vary the color of the leaves from light green to chartreuse to gold. In mid to late summer, songbirds will be attracted to pale lavender, bell-shaped flowers that open on tall 48 inch scapes.

'Sum and Substance' is one of the regal giants of the hosta world. Large, deeply veined and puckered, chartreuse-yellow leaves form imposing mounds 30in. high that glow warmly in dappled light. (In dense shade, the leaves turn green.) Lavender flowers appear just above the leaves in late summer. Slugs, the only significant pest of hostas, generally leave this cultivar alone. Height: 30 in.
