"No wine better depicts the extraordinary range of Cabernet Sauvignon expression from Alexander Mountain Estate than this one. Meticulously considered block selection from all elevations is the key: the mid-mountain blocks (700-1,100 ft.) provide floral and spice aromatics, flesh and vivid red fruit while the higher blocks (1,200-2,400 ft.) offer a black mineral streak and the etched structural backbone for which this wine is so well known."

- Although technically part of Sonoma Valley, the Alexander Valley AVA acts as a gateway to neighboring Napa to the east and Mendocino to the north. It is a sprawling appellation, with pockets of distinct microclimates and soils, and as such, is home to variety of wine grapes and styles. Nearly everything grows in the Alexander Valley, though cabernet and chardonnay are the most widely planted grapes. The Russian River Valley lies to the west of Alexander Valley, and is marked by much cooler temperatures...

The 2001 vintage of Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of grapes selected from vineyards ranging from 1,400 to 2,400 feet in elevation. The vintage began with a mild spring and early summer but temperatures gently warmed for near-perfect harvest conditions. The result was beautifully mature grapes with optimum sugars, acids, flavor and color.

Spectator Review: " Complex, intense and well integrated, with ripe, rich fruit, lots of currant, anise, earth, mineral and spice, picking up leather and meat notes on the finish. Has the tannic strength to age. Best from 2001 through 2008..."

2003 challenged the vineyard team with a long bud break, mid-March through April 4, followed by bloom delays due to foggy, cloudy conditions. This bloom extension coupled with some hail damage led to a poor fruit set and lower yields per vine. Yet through this diversity coupled with high elevation vineyard sites the clusters gained more fruit intensity and promising sugar levels. Some stretches of heat spikes during mid-July pushed varaision by early August. Harvest followed late September with a...

Aging in custom coopered, thin-staved, French oak barrels enabled development of the complexity and supple tannins we seek in our red wines as well as aromatic, cedary fragrances. This wine is well balanced, very dark ruby-purple in color and suffused with flavors os spicy black cherry, chocolate and coffee. -Mike Westrick, Winemaker

Although the 2005 Cabernet Sauvignon is a softer wine, it still begs for additional bottle age. A blend of 95% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc, it offers graphite, blackberry, cassis, toasty oak, and earth notes in a full-bodied, rich style with slightly less tannin and concentration than its monster sibling.

Silver Oak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 750ml
Winemaker Notes - The 2005 Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon beautifully expresses the full aromatic ripeness of this exemplary vintage. It is full bodied and yet refined, and consistent in its color, aroma, palate and finish. It has a dark garnet color and a nose of black cherry, clove, cinnamon, lavender and licorice. It is seamless on the palate with a solid core of berry fruit, velvety tannins and excellent length. With proper cellaring it should give drinking pleasure through 2032.

Geyser Peak Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 750ml
Known for luscious Cabernet Sauvignons, this wine is a classic example of Geyser Peak Winery’s intense, lively style. Forward fruit characters of black cherry and blackberry dominate the aromas, with underlying grace notes of dark chocolate and spice. In typical Geyser Peak style, the bright fruit is nicely supported by a restrained oak character. The palate is rich, round and lush, seamlessly pairing the cherry and berry fruit with a hint of spice and vanilla. The fine-grained tannins meld into a persistent, lingering finish.

Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005
The continued addition of fruit from estate hillside vineyards and the blending of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot with the Cabernet Sauvignon are responsible for the well integrated flavors, deep color and full mouth feel of this vintage. The bouquet is highlighted with aromas of cassis, black cherry and dark chocolate, with undertones of sweet tobacco and cedar. This Cabernet is very rich in texture with opulent flavors of ripe blackberry, cherry and cassis. This Cabernet has a lingering...

Outstanding, decadent & quite hard-to-get. Seductive French oak, very ripe, low acid, opulent and creamy, 40 second finish. 100% Cab Sauv from below the Mayacamas, just north of the Rutherford Bench. Drinking well now with a 20 minute decant. This is a very special wine.
