The smoothing plane is used to put the final finish on your work. (Less work and a far better finish than sanding.) The coffin plane is great: just get behind it and push all day! It’s good for large surfaces too. The finish plane can be held in a lot of different ways and used one-handed. It both pushes and pulls well.

Stanley produced three large-format low angle block planes. One of these, the Low Angle Smoothing Plane, was only made from 1926 to 1943*, which may account for the extraordinarily high prices that it commands on the antique market. Our Low Angle Smoother is based on the Stanley — it is essentially a shorter version of the Low Angle Jack. It has an adjustable mouth, and a unique overhead Bailey adjuster for depth of cut. The Smoothing Plane is useful in a wide variety of jobs from rough work to smoothing...

"I had priced this job with all my local sign printers and none of them could match the price I got through speedysigns.com. I was very leary of making a large order over the internet with a vendor I never used before but I am glad I did. I received excellent customer service with great comunication through the whole process and the signs turned out better than I had hoped and at the right price."

The handle and front knob of the bench style models are hardwood and provide a nice touch in lieu of plastic. Frog surfaces are milled well. Lever caps are fitted with levers, another welcome improvement over the late Record screw design. More importantly, Anants throat openings are discreet and properly milled. They average just under .200 wide; with the frog set correctly, the opening forward of the blade is only about 3/64. The rear edge of the throat opening has been milled, exactly as it should...

77327 Due to it’s versatility, the #4 Smoothing Plane is one of the very first planes a woodworker should own. It can handle everything from coarser cuts to fine finish smoothing. This update of Stanley’s traditional #4 “Sweetheart” plane has a ductile cast iron base and frog that are cast as one piece to deliver maximum stability to the iron and reduce chatter. The body is fully stress relieved and aged before it is precision machined for flatness and perpendicularity between the soles and side...
