Our Sonoma Zinfandel is grown in the regions most noted for creating exceptional Zinfandel: Sonoma Countys Alexander Valley and Dry Creek Valley. Alexander Valleys warm climate and well drained shallow soils produce Zinfandel rich in black fruits and earthy spices. Dry Creek Valleys slightly cooler microclimate produces Zinfandel rich in raspberry and "briary" flavors which are enhanced by slightly increased natural acidities.

Year after year, Ted Seghesio releases some of the best Zinfandels on the market. The Sonoma Zin, which combines fruit from Home Ranch, River Road, Lone Oak, San Lorenzo and Cortina Vineyards balances the sweet briar fruit California Zin is known for, with sultry spices understones and fine tannins without ever being over the top. Balanced and food friendly.

2005 Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel
90 points and a "Smart Buy" from Wine Spectator: "Jam-packed with ripe cherry and boysenberry fruit that's backed up with juicy, zesty flavors and notes of spice, star anise and toasty oak. Has a backbone of ripe tannins. Drink now through 2010." (6/15/2007) 2005 was one of the coolest and longest growing seasons in recent memory. Moderate weather from July to Mid-September (Temperatures seldom eclipsed 80 degrees) created ideal ripening conditions that allowed the fruit to mature slowly and evenly...

Seghesio Sonoma Zinfandel 2008
Every year, the vineyard brings in approximately 35 lots of Zinfandel averaging 25-30 years in age. The best of these lots are selected to make Sonoma Zinfandel. A small amount of Petite Syrah is added to the wine for added complexity. The result is a tantalizing black raspberry and classic briary flavored wine with a balance of components for which Seghesio wines are known. Brimming with berries and enriched with a layer of sweet oak, the wine is exceptionally well-balanced and fairly fleshy in...

Our Sonoma Zin is a collage of Northern Sonomas vineyard landscape. While primarily estate grown, we purchase additional fruit from trusted growers to meet an ever-increasing demand for this notable wine. The extra steps we want growers to take to produce high quality fruit are not readily accepted by many. Our growers understand that timely canopy management throughout the growing season is required to produce high quality fruit. Hence, by embracing Seghesios more costly and time-consuming quality...

Seghesio, 'Old Vine', Sonoma County, red wine, Zinfandel, 750ml 2000
Winemaker Notes: "Each harvest, we produce several lots of old vine Zinfandel from sites whose low-yielding vines produce very concentrated fruit. These old vines typify a sense of place - a place where wines of character, consistency and distinction originate. In 2000, a cooler summer enabled the fruit to hang longer on the vine. This slow rate of maturation produced densely flavored fruit. Our small punch-down fermenters and warm fermentation temperature helped extract a spectrum of flavors including...

- Second in fame only to Napa, this "other" valley offers just about every climate and topography imaginable. From its cool and fog-enshrouded coastal regions on the far west, to the sprawling Alexander Valley on the boarder of Napa and the many little dips and peaks in between, Sonoma has been a vital wine-grape-growing region since the mid 1800s. Important sub-AVAs include Chalk Hill (known for chardonnay and sauvignon blanc), Dry Creek Valley (where zin is king) Knights Valley (largely cabernet...

Seghesio Old Vine Zinfandel perfectly embodies our family's goal of Sharing Uncommon Ground as only the finest lots from our oldest vineyards are selected for this composite blend. These vineyards are rare treasures we have farmed over the course of our family's century as grape growers. Although Old Vine is often loosely interpreted in the wine industry, our benchmark is fifty years. The average age of the vines producing this wine nears 90 years.

Region : California Since the famous Judgement of Paris in 1976 California wines have unquestionably ranked among the best in the world. From the Anderson Valley in the North through Temecula Valley in the South, California vineyards grow dozens of wine grape varietals that produce wines of many different styles. The California wine industry has steadily gained ground since the 1960s (the industry took a major hit following Prohibition), but its roots date back over 200 years. Major grape varietals...

This Zinfandel shows notes of deep black cherry and baked black raspberry, with hints of vanilla, pastry and pepper. Given its smooth body and feisty fruit finish, overall it's a well made wine. And for $17? Hell ya!
