Showy spikes of scarlet flowers draw hummingbirds and they bloom for a long time on this 1-3 ft. shrub. This tender perennial prefers sandy, drier soil and is usually grown as an annual. (75-80 days)

Seeding Info: Can be sown directly in soil, 2 seeds per inch at a depth of 1/4", as soon as danger of frost has passed. Soil temperatures should be around 70 degrees. For earlier blooms, start indoors 6-8 weeks before transplanting when all danger of frost has passed. Germinates in 7-12 days.

Don't let the delicate looking flowers fool you - these are TOUGH plants! Like all Texas Sage (Salvia), they prefer full sun and fairly dry conditions - they definately don't like wet feet, but they will bloom from mid-summer to frost for you growing in dry, poor soil and full boiling sun! What more could you want?!

The flowers occur in thick whorls--elongated, magenta, and highly attractive to hummingbirds. Plant prefers sun to part shade, moderate water, and is hardy to down to 10 degrees F (zone 8). Sage Organic Seeds - Clary
Handsome and attractive herb is aromatic with pale-purple flower spikes. Leaves are often distilled and/or used as a fixative in potpourris. The seeds soaked in water were once used to make an eye bath and hence its name "clary" or "clear eye." Reaches full potential the second year.
