These Saudi Arabia Silver Riyals were struck in secrecy at the Philadelphia Mint in 1944 and loaded aboard the SS John Barry. They were headed for Saudi Arabia to pay workers building an aviation fuel refinery to help win the war. They never made it. The ship was torpedoed by a U-boat and its silver treasure was only recently recovered. The coins say "Made in Mecca" as part of the subterfuge that would eventually be revealed. Only a limited number of recovered coins remain available.
