Rigol 1897 Brut Cava NV
Rigol Cava is from a winery in Spain’s Penedes region, founded in 1897. A blend of 30% Macabeo, 60% Xarello, 10% Parellada, made in the traditional "methode Champenoise", with a secondary fermentation in the bottle. The wine is then aged more than nine months on its lees to give it a rounder, richer mouthfeel and a more complex and enticing flavor profile. For sparkling wines, Brut is the driest style, and also the finest. This lovely Brut sparkler has very delicate bubbles that lift up the ripe...

Established in 1897, the Rigol vineyard was founded by Modest Rigol, who made carbonated drinks in Sant Sadurní. After the Spanish Civil War, when a sugar shortage made it difficult to produce sparkling wine using the Champagne method, Rigol used his knowledge of carbonation to produce sparkling wine by adding carbon dioxide, returning to the traditional method when life returned to normal. A blend of 30% Macabeo, 60% Xarello and 10% Parellada grapes, Rigol 1897 Cava Brut is meant to be enjoyed...

I can only think of one other time when I found a Cava more than, It’s okay. But this wine! I tasted it and fired off an email to the importer telling him I was astounded in its quality and had I tasted it blind, I would have thought it was Champagne! Toasty, nutty, rich and sexy on the palate with dried fruit, toast, citrus and cream. The wine has a refinement beyond any Cava I have come across: tiny bubbles, long finish. A Champagne in Cava’s clothing!

One of the finest values in sparkling wines in today's market. This ripe, soft, dry, richly fruity wine exhibits notes of wheat, honey, and Chardonnay-like flavors. It reveals good frothiness, light to medium body, and a clean, moderately long finish. Parker score: 87

Jaume Serra Cristalino Brut Cava NV Spain Rated 86
If you like a toasty, dry bubbly, Cristalino is a nice choice given the affordable price. Burnt bread notes mix with vanilla liqueur and green apples on the nose. The palate is bracingly dry and crisp, with lemon and petrol notes. The bead is aggressive, but the back palate nice nad the finish dry, with dusty cinnamon apple notes.(Wine Enthusiast)

Cristalino Brut Cava Jaume Serra, Penedes I can’t think of a better value in sparkling wine than this full-flavored bubbly from northeast Spain’s Penedes. (Sparkling wine is called cava in Spain.) The latest blend is richer than previous blends, with a honey-like character to the wine. Could it be that some of the grapes were affected by botrytis? The bubbly remains bright to the taste and it has a clean, lemony tang to the finish. This is a festive and affordable way to begin a celebration.
