The gold ran out, but the wines have lived on. It’s a warm area, lending itself to full-bodied reds like this Syrah. Round, rich and smooth, it’s got plenty of dark berry notes leavened by a touch of chocolate.

Varietal Composition: 50% Syrah, 50% Bonarda Dark reddish/purple color. Intense aroma of black raspberries. This medium-bodied, very lively wine has loads of ripe red plum and black raspberry flavors with a slightly spicy character and a long, juicy finish. Certainly enjoyable in its youth, but will age beautifully. A fun wine to try with a wide range of red wine-friendly foods. 2006 Syrah-Bonarda contains 50% of each component. It was also aged for nine months in French and American oak and bottled without fining or filtration. Purple-colored, it delivers an alluring nose of baking spice, blueberry, plum, and black raspberry. On palate it is medium-bodied with loads of spicy dark fruit, a forward personality, good balance, and a pure finish. A beautiful dark ruby color with a nose that has intriguing earth tones, white pepper and plum essence. On the palette you will experience a dense velvet feel with a balance of black cherry, toasted oak with a lingering soulful finish. This wine will go very well with rich beef dishes such as prime rib or filet mignon.

There are 12 acres of Syrah planted on the Truchard Estate Vineyard. Four acres are in the ”Highlands” region to the north, and 8 acres are located at the southern end of the vineyard. These areas are dominated by austere hillsides composed of volcanic rock and ash. The vines range from 3-10 years old and benefit from the unique combination of soil, exposure, and cool Carneros temperatures. The result is a full-bodied wine, with flavors and structure reminiscent of the northern Rhone.
