Ravenswood winemaker Joel Peterson's dream was to create wines that would rival the greatest of Europe. In his first vintage, 1976, he produced 327 cases of Dry Creek Zin that took first place in a prestigious San Francisco tasting. One of the most revered masters in the art of Zinfandel is Joel Peterson (Ravenswood). Match Peterson with some marketing guys looking for a higher plane and you get Zen of Zin, the way to Zinlightenment. No kidding? I'm always looking to get more enlightened. Actually this wine is rather tame by Zinfandel standards. Its lower alcohol, lighter body and well-focused fruits make this a quintessential barbecue wine for summer. Chill it just a tad and head out to the grill. Give it a try with salmon.
