Rare Bird of Fashion, Eric Boman
Over ninety sumptuous color plates, photographed by Eric Boman, show off a selection of Apfel's extraordinary outfits on wittily posed mannequins, some sporting her trademark outsized spectacles. The originality of her style is typically revealed in her mixing of Dior haute couture with flea-market finds, Dolce & Gabbana lizard trousers with nineteenth-century ecclesiastical vestments, pink Lanvin worn with ropes of Navajo turquoise. Apfel's eclectic pieces might come from a Parisian couture house...

Old Rare Books (Paperback) Description: A passionate archive of the music business, OLD RARE NEW surveys the declining numbers of independent record stores while celebrating the hold-outs, including collectors, DJs, and shop employees and owners. As much an ode to the lure of vinyl as to indie retailers, this engrossing compendium of essays and road-trip interviews extols the value of the often obsessive, nonlinear exploration of browsing through the racks. Contributors include Saint Etienne¿s...

* Early and uncommon American insurance item, with a nice woodcut title-page vignette of a tree. The company was originally founded in 1784 and incorporated in 1786; it produced its first deed of settlement in 1801, the text of which is here amended to conform with changes made to the original act of incorporation.

“There are few children’s books, if any, more universally beloved than A.A. Milne’s classic tale of a ‘silly old bear’ and his boy, Christopher Robin,” said James Gannon, Director of Rare Books at Heritage Auctions. “To have a complete set of first editions in near fine dust jackets is rare enough, but to have them all signed by Milne himself makes them an irresistible delight for collectors.” The set is estimated to bring between $25,000 and $35,000.

Book Finds, 3rd Edition: How to Find, Buy, and Sell Used and Rare Books
First, I really enjoyed this book. I sell books and the author has likely forgotten more about bookselling and collecting than I'll ever know. For both sellers and collectors getting into the field I would highly recommend BOOK FINDS. That said, I haven't been able to duplicate some of Ellis' techniques for buying, selling and trading. Much of this may be my own inability to wheel and deal, but I'd like to think I can now recognize a prize when I see one, and get my hands on it. The author's chapter...

This excellent study discusses the careers and interactions of three of the most influential men of their times, General and later President Ulysses Grant, the eccentric Horace Greeley, editor and founder of the great New York Tribune, and Charles Dana, editor of the powerful New York Sun. Well researched, the volume presents detailed biographies of these men and how Grant was presented by them to the American public, from his earliest appearance as the hero of the Fort Donelson victory...
